Aloha !!
Good to find a forum of help & tips re my latest purchase (avatar). I bought the "S" or "Bosley" I call it, just about a month ago and it's in pretty good shape, has about 75k on it now -- after a quick mechanic inspection etc I immediately road tripped from KC to Niagra Falls and had a nice drive. Once I got back, I assessed I'll need to take care of new shocks, fuel pump and the center console needs a new lower piece, as the elbow pad hinge mount is destroyed. An updated audio/GPS unit would make this kitty purrin' fun as well. If anyone knows of a lead on the console piece I'd be thrilled. Anyway, for a meager $4k I scored a nice ride that needs a few adjustments, so I turn to you all in the forums to see what/how I can do some of this myself. I used to wrench a bit when I was young and cars were uh, you know, wrench able LOL
A big bit about me personally (actually kind of a heads up too because there are americans that could lose a lifetime earned)-
Kilauea Volcano Lava Flow
I’m originally from Honolulu Hi. My fam still lives in various parts of Hawaii. My mom lives in Pahoa – Puna rain forest, a small village on the big Island of Hawaii which is nearby two of the most active volcanoes in the world — Mona Loa & Kilauea Volcanoes. Kilauea Volcano has been active over several decades — the lava flow buried the most famous black sand beach in Hawaii back about 1992. I have a pic of a school bus completely engulfed by lava with only the roof of the bus visible, post-flow.
This week brought news the lava flow is dangerously close to my mom’s property. She is 91yo and still kicking, but needs/has daily living assistance. Two months ago, a hurricane parked in my mom’s front yard for about 8 hours. It took out the trees, roads and electricity. They have a generator and it got plenty of use the passing month, the electricity is now restored.
This lava flow is a scary one. It is traveling underground in lava tubes, therefore it is impossible for scientists to quantify and predict how much flow is coming and where it is going. Right now, it is 7 miles away from mom’s place, traveling at a rate of 470 yards per day. At this rate, and considering the current direction, the lava will arrive at mom’s place in 16/17 days. But, there is a chance it will miss the property. I just have to wait see.
It’s been a stressed out week. Month, really, with the Hurricane damage and then Puu Oo vent collapse..
They are starting work on an old road in fear the lava will cover the one highway to the area, leaving about 10k folks stranded — lava locked. This year is shaping up to be a very trying one for me and my family. I am usually a prepared guy. Did not see this coming. My family will survive, rebuild etc. but I know there are many families in that area that will really struggle if the lava takes over there land. Hoping for the best -- Mahalo & thx in advance to any help in the future, fellas
PS- root beer

You don't mention Bosley's age, but certainly he isn't new. Therefore, one might expect a few things need attention, depending how diligent the former owner was at keeping things up. It doesn't sound like that person was very diligent.
I'm sorry to read your family is dealing with the eruptions. I hope everything works out for them and you.

Aloha ElinorB
I put the production year in my sig -- maybe a tip folks here like to turn off sigs ?? Anyways, Bosley is a 2001 4.0L sport model. Charlie's Angels would luv cruising with Bosley
Much of the car is in great shape, actually, all things considered and there was good mechanical maintenance. But, after 13 years of service, Ol' Bosley needs a few maintenance related parts and of course, and owner that won't go ballistic and tear off the next elbow rest LOL I'm sure there's a good story there.. Bought it from a fireman -- guess he got that fire out without burning down his car LOL First thing I did was put a new set of tires on and have it aligned. Front end checks out good & tight, drives well. plenty of power. But, the car was a hard start on the way back from NY and the mechanic said it was an indication the fuel pump is going. Said they begin to starve out the car, then eventually show typical LP signs upon testing. He told me I can prob get through the winter just by turning the car on first and then delaying the start. So far, it's working. This is my pleasure car, so I only rely on it for cruzin' etc. I'm going to look in to replacing it myself, but I may end up just letting the mechanics handle it -- high pressure gizmo and all...
Anyways, thx for stopping in and have fun out there

Aloha, the lava is .8 miles from mom's and it has stalled!! Still a lot of flow from the Pu'u O'o cauldron but the lava tube feeding this particular flow has cooled, forcing the flow up top at the cauldron to find another path, which is good -- that path leads to wilderness jungle with no inhabitants. At least, not any creatures that pay property taxes
so that's the good news starting our week -- have an awesome one folks!
