Default Cigarette lighter power drain

Does anyone know if the power drain from the cigarette lighter is continuous, even after the vehicle is shut down? I have a 2010 XKR convertible and an external Garmin GPS device, which I power through the cigarette lighter. When I shut off the engine, the GPS device appears to remain on. This is an issue for me because I'm trying to troubleshoot why the car won't start after non-use for as little as three days. It appears something is draining my battery, although the battery (from the Jag dealer) is new, as is my alternator.

The tech guy is saying that the battery is being drained (by something) and suggests I lock the car after every use. I hadn't been locking it because I keep it in my enclosed garage.

In any event, any thoughts would be most welcome . . .

Welcome to the Forums.

Since this is NOT the Tech section I will only say:

"When tracing battery drain, ALWAYS ensure any aftermarket device is disconnected from the car".

Welcome to the forums Caymanwriter,

Good to have you with us.

I can see you've already found your way to the X150 forum with this question so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

I've added vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. If you want to change these, go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also use the US Lower Atlantic Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...r-atlantic-66/ to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Well, thank you for the welcome. I'm just now learning the basics of the site, so I can navigate more efficiently and, hopefully, be of better assistance to other members.

Best Easter regards,

Dave
