Default A Dream for Two Comes True

On March 10, 2011, I bought a 2007 Jaguar X-Type, "Winter Gold". I call it "Emma", after my brother's eldest daughter and also because that name sounds mysteriously British to me (although I know that in series, that's NOT what she drove!).

My brother Doug and I shared a love for cars that came through my father's side of the family. History has it that even in the "great depression" (what kind of an oxymoron is that?) although there was little food on the table or shoes on his children's feet, my grandfather drove brand new cars.

As a child I spent hours helping my brother sand his little Morris Minor in return for being allowed to paint the bumper, a very small section of the bumper as it turns out, because like me, Doug was a perfectionist, and at 7, my technique with a paintbrush just wasn't up to his standards. I forgave him and throughout the years, we shared the same car lust although mine translated into flipping them unmercifully and his, hanging on to them until there was nothing left. Doug was very careful with his money. He died long before he should have, with my old Honda Civic rusting away in his back yard, never having owned the Jaguar he had always wanted and we had talked so much about.

Last winter, when I spotted this perfection of an X-Type while crusing the internet, it didn't take much for me to decide to trade my boxy but oh-so-reliable Honda CR-V in on the car that both my brother and I had dreamed of owning. I'm not sure he would have selected this particular model, but it is the one I was looking for, the most practical car Jag has ever made. I use it every day and will soon be looking for advice on the best way to carry road bikes on it in this forum.

March 10 is my brother's birthday. As I drove my beautiful new (to me) car off the lot, listening to all the different and not-so-Honda sounds it made and car-pride on high beam, I gave a thumbs up and said out loud, "This is for your too, Dougie", then hit the open road.

Thanks for your message. In some ways I do think of my X-Type as "our" car and the thought of my brother (who really was an angel in life) smiling over my shoulder as I drive it makes me smile.

Hello and welcome to jaguarforums.com.

If you haven’t already you need to put your car details in your signature. I am speaking of the Year, Make & Model. Without it you may not get the input you are looking for. To do this go to, User CP, Edit Signature, Add Vehicle Details and such and Save Your Signature.

Please take a moment and read the information provided to you explaining the rules. Be patient and enjoy the site.

Also, should you have questions related to your vehicle please post it in the section for your model year (MY) car. This way you will reach all the members that are familiar with your MY car.

Awwww that's such a touching story.
When the X type was being developed there was such an accelerated timeline to get it done. There was high pressure on the team and the project had some set backs. We worked long hours and sometimes it felt like a thankless task. However hearing stories like this make it worthwhile.

I lived in BC for a little while between my degree and my Masters. Where abouts are you from?

Wow Count! That's quite the impressive stable!

I live on Vancouver Island. My house is built into the side of a mountain overlooking the ocean and ONLY an X-Type could get me up here when the weather gets bad. I know there were some recalls (mine's been through them all) but good job on this car. For me, it incorporates the perfect compliment of features. I'm going to switch over to the X-Type forum to get that advice on the best system to use on it for transporting road bikes - my other vehicular passion.

Girlz your house sounds breath taking!
The X type is not without its issues, I know, but the engines are pretty robust and they're not as bad as people say.
I think they're practical and very elegant looking. When they were launched they were hailed as being very good in terms of ride and handling- way above the contemporary Audis and Mercedes.
I wish you fun with your X type

My brother lives on the Island. Being an Alberta boy he says he just sits back and laughs when he sees the Natives trying to drive around in the heavy wet snow. You will love the X-type. She is a snow tank!
