Default Excited about my first car!

Hi everybody,
I just recently bought an used Jaguar F-Type V6S and this is my first car purchase. All my friends and family is telling me I made the wrong choice but I am incredibly excited to take shipment of it. I already started reading up on all the things on Jags and Ftypes and I am excited to get started in this community!

Welcome to the forum VeeDub,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

I bought an E-Type, which was the current equivalent when I was your age. Never regretted buying it - often regretted selling it!

I can see you've already found your way to the F-Type forum so there's no need for a link to it from me
.

Please add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/western-us-ak-ca-nv-ut-hi-wa-id-38/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Congratulations! What a car to buy as your first car. You made the right call, if you can keep it under control.

Since this is your first car, some advice:

1. Maintenance is very important to ensure longevity and reliability. Especially engine oil changes are very crucial and this car requires high-quality synthetic engine oil so your best bet is to take it to the dealer. This is a hassle, but has to be done, as the alternative is a lot more hassle in repairs and possibly ruined car.
2. You have to monitor engine oil level between oil changes. Read the manual on how digital oil level checking works and check it at least one a month.
3. Your tires are mission critical safety equipment. Don't cheapen out on them and don't drive on bald tires. Tires will help you take off faster, stop better, and turn sharper. I recommend Michelin Pilot 4S. Also keep them inflated to correct pressure.
4. Don't accelerate into the corner (i.e. while turning) or you will end up featured in "wrecked exotics" Youtube video. When you have a powerful car like F-type it is too easy to get carried away, so it is very important to remember this.
5. Don't street race. Your F-type is fast enough to kill you, but it isn't fastest car around. Instead, sign up for a novice day at your local track event.

For sure, I plan on bringing it into a shop for an oil change and general inspection even though one was done according to the carfax 5k miles ago. Does it seem weird that Jaguar actually recommends 16k oil service? Also, what's your guy's opinion on European independent shops vs dealers when it comes to a current model Jaguar? I echo those sentiments completely. Been driving my parent's cars which has less than half the power of this car and to the front wheels so I definitely ease into it. Don't want to end up into those compilations on youtube haha

Jaguar Dealer servicing is different here in the UK. We get "fixed price servicing" which removes any doubt about using the Dealer whilst the vehicle is still under warranty. I know US members have a different experience and you will find several posts on the topic in F-Type forum.

Oil change frequency is an often raised topic and there will never be agreement! Remember the service interval is every 16K Miles OR every 12 MONTHS - whichever comes first so most owners are servicing on a time elapsed basis and never get anywhere near 16K miles between changes.
