Default Finally getting a Jag XKR!

Hello, all!

Daniel, here, from Dallas, TX. I'm in the process of purchasing a 2009 XKR Portfolio. I got a great deal on it, but it need a few cosmetic fixes (damn dash bubbling, new J-gate cover, window's tinted). Can't wait to feel that 420 HP!!

Cheers!

Is the dealer doing all the cosmetic work before you get your hands on it?

Thanks, Tommy!

No, Graham, it's from an individual. He had one wheel refinished and a warranty fix on one of the window motors. I had it checked out and it's all good except for the following: I need to refinish one wheel (~$200), replace the J-gate cover ($75?) and somehow see if I can get Jag to fix the dashboard leather that is pulling up on the dash just to the left of the front, center speaker - it's still under CPO warranty. I understand after reading some threads that the dash can be a common issue. Got a great deal, so we factored this stuff into my purchase price.

I've read a few posts about this issue on the XK being a problem in your climate. Not too sure anyone has got an entirely satisfactory solution yet but warranty should take care of it.

Thanks for the welcome! My car should be here in 5 days or so (it's being shipped from MN). CAN NOT WAIT. Any issue with window tinting the XKs? I'm trying to decide between 35 or 20 darkness. Wonderful problem to have.

Daniel,

I can't think there would be an issue with tinting an XK but I've copied your question to XK/XKR forum for advice from members with this model. Here's the link:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...issues-105144/

Less than 1000 miles to MN. Five days wait would kill me. I'd be crawling there on my hands and knees to drive the car back to Dallas.

Thanks for copying my question, Graham. I should have posted it there.

Yeah, I considered flying up and driving it back as I have a friend in Minneapolis and some in KC, which is about halfway back to Dallas, but the deal was a little tricky across state lines and from an individual. Also, I haven't told anyone here in Dallas - just going to show up in it after it get's here. Definitely counting down the days!

Had my XKR since Friday and am blown away (as is everyone else that sees it)! It's stunningly gorgeous - I was considering going black with my wheels, but the Portfolio wheels with the red heritage logo are fantastic. Pictures in no way did it justice. I also find that my car is invariably valeted within three spot of the door (used to be 3 parking lots away).

And driving it is sublime. Putting it over into "Ds", which I just played with last night, is just awesome. It literally inspires awe. And I've already had a Ferrari 458 Spyder and a Merc SL 65 AMG rev and gun it after looking over at them at a light. I just laugh and cruise on. My XKR can't quite handle them off the line, but that definitely never happened in my '96 Acura TL. Hahaha!

Didn't tell anyone I was getting it - just showed up. My girlfriend didn't believe it was mine for 5 minutes and I have a queue of ride and drive requests from friends.

Absolutely love this car!

Good to hear your XKR has finally arrived and is exceeding expectations.

I've changed from a 2005 XK8 to a 2007 XK since you started this thread but mine only took 36 hours from initial inquiry to getting the car home.

I don't think I'd have had as much patience as you!!

Ha! Congrats, GGG! Beautiful coupe - is that the dark blue?

It was a bit of a wait. But I wanted to get it checked out and it had to ship from MN and get inspected and licensed in TX. Absolutely worth the wait!

It's Indago Blue. Great colour - nightmare to photo!

I'd forgotten you had to have an inspection for bringing in a vehicle from another State.

Surprised you've stopped long enough to post to the forum now you've finally got your hands on it!
