Hello everyone,
I'm Lawrence, an accountant, from a small city in Ontario about 50 miles east of Detroit. I recently purchased and imported a 1989 XJS coupe from a guy near Chicago (coincidently, the vendor is a celebrity forum member here). This thing is a head-turner and conversation starter. Note that this is not my photo but that of the vendor:
Ownership of this vehicle has been a dream of mine since the mid-eighties. I just couldn't shake the need to buy one, so I just tore off the band-aid and committed. The justification to my wife came later as well as finding a place to park yet another vehicle.
The car's previous owner has suggested I join this forum as he tells me it contains the world's jaguar brain-trust. Believe me, I am going to need to call on it for even the minutiae of old car issues since, sadly, there are few mechanics in this hood to take care of this type of vehicle.
Kind regards to all and I know you will be patient with me.
Glad to have you with us. The XJS is a fabulous car. Ownership can sometimes be challenging but, mark my words, the car will repay your efforts in more than equal measure.
Good to have you with us. I thought I recognised the photo as soon as I opened your post.
I can see you've already found your way to the XJS forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the Canada Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/canada-73/ to find other members in your region.
If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.

Just my little bit to ease wrong info being given.
1989 is a confusing year, depending on markets.
Count the HT (spark plug) leads.
13 in total is what is known as the Lucas system, simple system to live with.
14 in total is known as the Marelli system. Can have issues, BUT once sorted properly,. very reliable.
Once you know, add Lucas or Marelli to your Sig via the CP tab at the top.
lol
I discovered the need for a mechanic and the related shortage thereof in T minus 30 seconds after taking delivery of the vehicle. I'm looking forward to bouncing ideas off of the crew here.
