First time Jaguar owner
Hello everyone, I am new to modern Jaguars, I once owned a Mk 10 and later an XJS V12. I have just acquired a tidy 45k miles 1999 XK8. It has had most of the problem areas already sorted, but will need the top hydraulic hoses replaced in the near future. I will probably replace the lot in one go. I am aware of the Nikasil issue, but this motor has good compression and does not use oil. I did have a blow by and leak down test done prior to the purchase. No issues found.
I'm a reasonable mechanic, and have restored a few cars over the past 10 years. My current project is a 1973 Lotus Élan Sprint that is almost ready for paint.

Welcome Gerry.
45K is low so there will be many years of great motoring left. My '99 has over 100K and runs perfectly. It seems that if a Nicasil block has lasted this long then all should be good. You have joined a forum with many helpful people should issues arise.
Cheers,Neil

Welcome to the forum Gerry755,
Good to have you here with us at Jaguar forums.
Any Nikasil lined engine which is still going strong now is unlikely to develop bore wear as the sulphur which caused the issues has long disappeared from fuel.
Follow this link XJ ( X308 ) XJ8 / XJR - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X308 section for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.
