Default 'Got the Bug for a Cat',,,, again.

Or is it 'agane? Greetings to everyone. Roadslayer's the name. Having wanted a Jaguar since the late '60s and actually owning a '64 E Type for all of six months in 1990(short story) it has been mere days since the desire has returned. I haven't even slept in two nights fretting over it. Having read of a members question of which XJR to aquire it seems the popular suggestion is a '98 to '02 model. I don't recall in the thread anyone suggesting an '04, 5 ,6 model. In that I'm in a toss-up over the two and leaning towards the newer aluminium design I was wondering if someone here might enlighten me as to why that is.
By the way my interests lie in cars, boats and motorcycles and have owned several of each over the years.
It's good to be here and hope to stay around.

'Cheers' Roadslayer

Roadslayer -

The "Bug for a Cat" is really quite serious, very contageous, and there is actually no known cure. Some have tried the 12-Step program ("Hi, my name is Larry and I'm a Jaguar addict") but it doesn't work.

Welcome to JaguarForums. I see you live on "The Edge". Is that the Edge of the Planet or the Edge of Reality? Never been to either, but I would like to visit sometime.

Regarding your "what year" question, go over to the XK8 & XKR forum and post that question. I'm sure you'll get plenty of experienced advice. I can't imagine why people wouldn't recommend an '04, '05 or '06 though. My '06 is a great car (albeit not an "R"). Most of the bugs were fixed in the later cars and they had the 4.2 with the 6-speed. Some, however, may be recommending the earlier cars as a better value because they go for much less $$ and most of the bugs aren't killers to fix if you're handy with a wrench. My guess is that you will learn more than you ever dreamed over on that forum. See you there.

Welcome again, and I hope you find a creampuff.

Thanks, uh,,,XK8+XJ8L. The Edge is located at the far northwest corner of the lower 48. Just before you fall off and have to swim to China.
I'll get back to the XJR thread and post just that. I hope this killer bug lasts. I only recaught it a few days ago and have been on an endless buzz. I've been around cars a lot and would agree th '98-'02 is popular for just that reason.

Are you out by Neah Bay? I'm in the Seattle area.

Stay dry,

Well, Gee! Thanks for the welcome, guys. Or gals. I'm,,uh,,,assuming there is some,,,or at least one,,,maybe.
Anyway I'm on Fidalgo Island, which in the bad ol' days of yore was known as 'the edge'. The end of the road. That's it. The boat goes to Canada or China. Take your pick.

welcome Roadslayer. IMHO, price is only part of why so many of us prefer the slightly more mature models of XJR (and of other things, but that's another subject). The body lines just seem to be more aesthetically pleasing (still talking cars here). But if head room is an issue the later versions are probably what you should be looking at.

Yes, I can understand both. I've been reading the reviews online and do prefer the looks of the earlier models, when the subtlties were pointed out. The aluminium framework does intrigue me. The 500lb. loss of weight must have some positive effects worth noting. Also I've never owned anything approaching a 'new' car. Well actually I had a 3 year old Honda Accord for a couple of years but sold it to buy an older, better car which I still have. It's 17 years old now. Yikes! Still looks and runs like new at 270,000 miles. Thanks for the welcome mat and I figured out the edit button. 'Yuo can't.'

Ah - Beautiful place. One of the greatest views going is from the top of Mt. Erie on Fidalgo Island. I have a daughter that attended the University of Victoria, so we drove to your "End of the Road" many times to get her on the boat to Canada.

Welcome again and Happy Hunting.

Cheers,

Yes, and on a clear day(fat chance) you can see Victoria from Mt. Erie. About 40 miles. Great place to get educated.
