Default Greetings from New England!

Hello and Merry Christmas season to all! I've been a Jaguar fan since I got my first Matchbox XJS as a child, they are just beautiful vehicles. The engines look like art, but I also like that you can get kits here to transplant chevys into them once they die. Ever since I saw a Jaguar with a blower thru the hood on Roadkill (a youtube show with the guys from Hot Rod Magazine) I thought that just made it even more sexy!

None the less, I have never had the pleasure of owning a Jaguar, almost bought a used XJ6 once but it turned out to be more scrap than a car.

I am currently debating on selling my muscle truck project since it's almost done and getting a Jaguar, probably an XJ depending on what is available. I'm mechanically very well inclined and don't mind doing some work but rather not bother with full restorations as I just did that with my old Dodge truck. That's why I'm more likely to go for XJ40/X300 than the Series I-III, but I don't want much newer than X308 cuz I don't really like the 'soft' body style...Can anyone give me pointers what years are better or what the common diseases are, if there's anything Jaguar specific I should pay attention to?? For example, I read about it being difficult to swap after market wheels because Jaguar has a large center bore?

Any info will be appreciated but I will also be digging around the forum to see what I can find since I know these are typical newbie questions.

Welcome.

Your market, and its unique issues, are very different to down here.

MY OPINION HERE.

My suggestion is the X300. It just has so many refinements over the '40, and none of the silly issues the X308 has, HOWEVER, the X308 once sorted would be a nudge above the X300, but only just.
