Default Greetings! New SoCal XJR owner

Greetings fellow Jaguar owners!

My name is Raymond, I live in Los Angeles just this last Sunday I purchased from the original owner a beautiful 2000 Jaguar XJR with 98,000 miles on it. It's silver with black leather. The previous owner maintained meticulous service records. Always serviced at the dealer since new. In the records it shows that the timing chain tensioners and guides have been changed, water pump, various coolant hoses, and the MAF amongst other things. It was taken in for service every 10k miles. (guy kept up an excel spread sheet) The car is in pretty mint condition and its extremely clean.

I have always lusted over the X308 XJR and I finally have one. I plan on driving it mainly on my days off and taking some road trips in it. I will continue to use my Honda Element as my primary means of transportation.

I drove it all evening on Sunday and all day yesterday. Took care of the smog certificate and transfered the title. At the very end of the night I got the infamous "ASC Trac Not Available" message on the dash along with the ABS light. I did my fair amount of research on these cars prior to purchase, and I see that the ABS module is a common thing when it comes to this issue, or it could be a weak battery or dirty sensor.

I am fairly mechanically inclined, but electrical systems confuse the heck out of me.

During my ownerwship I will need to find a good trustworthy independent shop here in Los Angeles. If anyone has any recommendations please pass them along.

Here is to Jaguar ownership

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your purchase. I highly recommend Original Jaguar and Land Rover in Covina. Eric is extremely knowledgeable and honest.

Thank you for the reply. Covina is a bit far for me, ideally I'd like to find someone closer to the West LA. But I have been known to drive far for the right mechanic. I will most definitely keep them on my scope.

Welcome to the forum VR6GURU,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

Certainly looks to be a well cared for example.

Follow Norri's link in post #4 to the X308 forum for help, advice and information.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Thanks for all the greetings. I'll be sure to check out the specific forums for help.

Just as an update: The last two days the ABS light has not come back on. I am really liking this big cat

Where are you guys getting your parts from at a reasonable price? How about after market performance products?

Thank you

For 'standard' parts, always try forum sponsor S N G Barratt:

SNG Barratt - The Ultimate Jaguar Parts Specialist

OE Jaguar and less than dealer prices. Mention you're a jaguarforums member for an additional 10% discount.

For advice and information on performance modifications, best to post the question in X308 tech forum.
