Greetings from Tennessee! :D
Howdy! My name is Peter, I'm nearly 17 and I just got my first Jaguar.
Never done an intro before, so you'll have to forgive me if I do it wrong.
I have had an affliction with cars since an early age, no doubt in part to watching both Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and all the Herbie movies religiously...
My first car I got at age 12.5 was a 1971 Elm Green VW Beetle, which I bought with money I had made by mowing lawns. Since then I have had quite a few cars, ranging from a Model T Ford to a 1998 Volvo V70 GLT. The latter, was my previous car, which brings me to Jaguars...
I had been trying to sell my Volvo for something different, when on Craigslist I saw a just posted, 1989 Jaguar XJS. Now, I have never really wanted a Jag, never liked the XJ-6, and I thought the XJS were made of what I have heard is called "Unobtainium"... So, to see an XJS, in my price range (Which was very little indeed) was quite a surprise! Unfortunately, the ad said it had overheating issues, so some Googling was in order. After some research, my father and I figured it was something we could handle, so we sold the Volvo and bought the Jag!
A few things needed fixing, i.e. parking brake light stuck on, the oil pressure gauge doesn't work, the shoulder belt would't come out and of course overheating. So far, we have fixed the parking brake light, the shoulder belt, replaced the alternator belt (That was fun...), replaced the thermostats and flushed the system. We also replaced the coolant temp sensor, hoping that was an issue, unfortunately, it wasn't...
It still runs hot, but not crazy-pegged-out hot, so I figure a radiator rodding/re-core/rebuild is in order. But what what a car! Oh, does it love to go...
I absolutely love him. Him, since I named him Fleming. After the author of James Bond and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. (What? It looks like Bond's car, and has Chitty's engine. Don't look at me like that...)
Anyway, I hope you guy's can help me get him going, 'cause I know this car will keep me busy.
Thanks again,
Peter

Welcome to the forum Peter,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums. That's a splendid Intro.
I can see you've already found your way to the XJS forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the US Southern Midwest Region forum by following this link US Southern Midwest - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
