Default Hello everyone.

I became a member several years ago but I never posted anything. However I do find this site extremely informative. This is always the site I go too when I have a question and I usually browse to find the answer.
My name is Uli and I currently own a 2009 Jag XKR that I bought back in 2012 from a Las Vegas jag dealer. I currently live in Studio city California and I work in Finance.

I’ve owned 5 jags in total and I currently own 1. =89 xkr rouge—-04 xType—98 xj8–02 xkr—-09 xkr.

So I’ve done a lot of preventative maintenance on this car and I currently have about 188,000 miles and I’ve notice that it burns about a quart of oil every 1500 miles or so.
Its time for an oil change and I’m wondering what oil grade is best considering the current mileage and the fact that it burns oil.

I normally use Castrol edge high mileage full synthetic oil 10w-30. I was thinking about using a thicker oil ? The owners manual recommends castrol 10w-30 synthetic. Any thoughts anyone?
I also want to ‘top off’ the power steering fluid but I’m not sure what to buy. Owners manual says ‘dexron lll’.‘ I believe dexron lll is transmission fluid’ I went to a local shop and they sell dexron Iv. The clerk asked me if I wanted synthetic. I was not sure what to purchase. Any thoughts on what brand to buy for the power steering fluid?
Thank you all in advance.

Welcome to the Forums.

Dex 3, or 4, compatible either way for steer fluid. Synthetic, also OK.

Engine oil, I will leave to those in your market to comment.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums Uli,

Good to hear you've been finding useful information on the forums.

Even at the total mileage, that's a lot of oil to be burning in 1500 miles. Definitely burning and not leaking? If so, I'd have a compression test done to see if any of the cylinders are reading unusually low.

I use Pentosin CHF202 fluid for the PS. Check with US members for equivalents if this is not available locally.

Hello, Uli,
I have learned through Bitter experience, ALWAYS use class and type of lubricants recommended by the manufacturer. Not necessarily the BRAND sold at the dealership, but the weight and type; Dexron for example, or 10w-30 Synthetic. I use Valvoline Max Life PS fluid.

I wish you success.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
