Default Hello from Fort Worth

Recently completed an impulse buy of a 1999 XK8 red convertible. The car has less than 34K miles on it and is generally in great condition. Currently, I have a few projects planned including having a few small dents removed, the front seats either refurbished or the leather replaced from Topsonline, and I need to fix the emergency brake that won't stay engaged when I pull up on the handle. The paint on this car is immaculate and other than the seats looks pretty close to brand new. I'm also interested in the pressure reducer for the hydraulic top and replacing the timing chain tensioners at some point. Anything else I should be doing?

Looking forward to your experience!

Bill

Welcome to the forum Bill,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

You may want to add a transmission fluid and filter change to your 'to do' list. It's not in the service schedules but is proven to increase transmission life.

I know you've already found your way to the XK8/XKR forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Southwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-southwest-37/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome.

Graham has suggested one of my favourites.

The balance is change ALL the fluids, then YOU know where each is at.

Good luck.

Welcome neighbor. I think this is the first thing you should do since a failure is potentially catastrophic. It was the first thing I did when I bought my XJ8 many years ago. There were no signs of any impending failure, but upon disassembly, I found the tensioner bodies on both banks had a sizeable crack in each one.
