hello from Port Washington
Hi,
I was recently searching for a Cadillac Allante when I came across the Jaguar XJS. The Jaguar has never been on my radar, partly because of "reliability" issues. I am used to dealing with the common electrical gremlins and leaky spots my Cadillacs have left, so my expectations for the XJS are hopefully grounded. I have noticed, However, That most people who have commented un the unreliability of the XJS appear to be individuals whom have never owned a Jaguar.
Despite the issues this car has I have fallen in love with it. I don't know if all the extra chrome is original to the car, but it really works well with the color. The bottom of the car has been undercoated and is quite immaculate.
The car needs a new top, and it has a couple tiny leaks that appear on the concrete after being parked for a weak. It is giving me a fuel fault 14 code and i have replaces the coolant temperature sensor, but have yet to eliminate the code. New thermostats on the way, so after I complete my coolant flush, hopefully the code will vanish.

Hello, Paul,
Niiice Caar!! In fact, that one is the only XJS I would consider owning; especially the convertible part, but also those tail lights! But I would prefer Black. Of Red.
The guys in our XJS section will positively Drool when you post over there! Sakes!! I don't even live there and I'm drooling!
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thanks,
The convertible part was the initial selling feature for me. I normally don't like the look of convertibles. Unfortunately, it has been too cold or rainy to really enjoy it yet.

Welcome.
Being a 1992, and Elinor's tail lights, it would be a 6ltr V12.
NOT an oil leaker in any way compared to the sister 5,3ltr.
I have ALWAYS stated the lack of reliability of any Jag is directly related to "The nut behind the wheel", who does not take care of any car, and the Jag gets blamed for it all.
ALL my V12's have been daily drivers, and do heaps of miles every year, and never ever break down.
The marking of territory is real, and probably coming from the transmission selector shaft seal.

It most certainly is transmission fluid, but I have yet to do a thorough inspection.
There are no oil leaks whatsoever.
I am already fantasizing about an XJS coupe.
You really don't see many of these in Wisconsin.

We see ZERO down here.
Trans fluid escaping, on that transmission = selector shaft seal.
Pan gasket, maybe???, but that would be constant. The shaft seal leaks due to "drainback" after about 5+ days.
Welcome to the forum Paul,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
I can see you've already found your way to the XJS forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Mmmmm, the good old USA market got things differently to the rest of us.
6ltr has a 4 speed auto
5.3ltr has a 3 speed auto.
6ltr has an engine cover over the V, and Jaguar V12 plaques on the inlet manifolds.
5.3ltr has NO covers, and may or may not have those name plaques.
Here is a snap of my 5.3ltr.
