Default Hello from Romania

I have a 2011 Audi A6 3.0 TDI Quattro with a ZF6HP19A, a 2002 Passat 1.9 TDI with a 5HP19 and a 1999 T4 Caravelle 2.5TDI Auto. I have done some testing on these. I want to let you know about my testing with these transmissions if you read these threads ZF 6HP19A tiptronic gearbox (A6 3.0 TDI Quattro) - Page 34
https://www.passatworld.com/threads/...cooler.563911/
https://www.vwt4forum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=402195
What brought me here is, of course, the ZF6HP transmission research. Back in the days I used to build racing engines of all kind but more active in the USA DSM comunity. The only experience with auto transmissions until 2015 was when I was a Service Manager at Evanston Subaru in Illinois where we would do a lot of trans flushes with, what I consider to this day,on of the most efficient and safe flush machines out there. http://jiffylubecs.gradepoint.com/en...ech_Manual.pdf
However these kind of flush machines do not work so well on these modern transmissions with internal filters and intricate fluid paths. The Subaru's have an external filter and did not need pan removal.
Now I am in Romania and still trying to improve where the factory cut corners because of their financial departments.

Welcome to the forums Pitzury,

Good to have you with us.

We had a forum meeting At Mackie Automatic Transmissions Ltd of Glasgow, UK five years ago where this type of equipment and transmission flush technique was demonstrated.

You will find plenty of transmission threads across our forums.

The place looks good. They have what's needed. Hope the guys also do a good job because a machine is only as good as the operator is. Back in the engine rebuilding days, even the so called standard rebuilds, I would always do the jobs like somebody else would then disassemble them and double check the work.

The last automotive job I had, up until 2014 was as e Service Manager for the local Audi dealer. I had 2 of probably the best Techs in the country with several international competitions won. They opened an independent shop working on Audi/VW cars. Having a lot of auto cars to work on they wanted to open a local Sonnax shop but couldn't because Automatic Choice had exclusivity in Europe with the shops in UK, Netherlands, Spain and Bulgaria. Unfortunately we had sometimes problems with rebuild valve bodies from them. It is very difficult, costly and annoying to customers to repair a transmission when you rely on a properly rebuild valve body yet it is not repaired correctly.

On another hand I followed a thread on jaguarforum.com https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=95585 regarding trans flushes with a Launch machine and I don't believe it is the best way to flush a ZF transmission. It is next to impossible to tell how much mixing is done that way and how much fluid is replaced. It is the best way for a shop since doing it thoroughly including the adaptation runs would not be financially possible for them. Too much time spent for a shop doing it the right way. That's why flushing equipment helps them.

I cannot post here or in other threads. Why is that?

It was actually this thread https://www.jaguarforum.com/showthread.php?t=81862 that I was following. It took me 2 days to find it again since I did not register on that site. I am not familiar with Jaguar models as far as trans cooling setups. But, if they are using engine coolant radiator to cool the trans, I believe the flow to the cooler is restricted so a lot of the mixing of old and new fluid is done using the Launch flush machine mentioned in that thread. It may work better if the trans is hot and hooking up the machine takes little time. Even so, there is no way of telling how much fluid goes back to the sump and not to the cooler. And of course if you do the flush hot you have to wait forever if it's not a cold winter to get the fluid below 30*C to set the correct level.
Stil believe the way these guys are doing it is the best way https://davewilkestransmissions.com/services/
