Default Help! My 2002 x type 2.5l standard lost all power to the wheels while driving

While driving at a steady 110k on a straight level highway my car lost power and I coasted to a stop (the engine was running all the time) there was no noise or any other indicators.
While waiting for a tow I did the following: I engaged the clutch with the tran. in gear - the revs dropped a bit and recovered. I then slowly put the tran. in gear with the clutch engaged - there was a bit of meshing noise then in it went. At the shop one front wheel was raised and turned with ease - with 3 wheels on the ground.
The car has 105k on it and has had no clutch or shifting issues
