hi guys
i am new here and like probably 90% am needing help.I have a 2008 xf and a 2001 s type both of which are great but have been looking for an older xk8 that I can afford for a while. I have just been offered a 1998 xk8 4.0 convertible for a really good price the issue is the battery on it died and when it was charged the car would not start, all other electrics ie roof work but it will not run. the present owner took it to the local jag dealer who said it needed a new ecu but they could not supply 1 for a car this old. He bought 1 off ebay but the dealer now says they want £1800 to programme it. he has lost patience and sorry for the language but went out and bought a mercedes to replace it. How can the ecu be replaced or repaired (the original is still with the car) or should i steer clear of this car. It is in showroom condition apart from the listed problem and seems too good to pass up which probably means stay away from it but I thought this might be the place to ask for advice. thanks in advance Ian
Hello, Ian,
Yes, most people who find their way to this site are in need of some kind of help. It's OK, though, because that's why the site exists.
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
