Hi - Introduction
Hi. My Name is JP. My sig other has a 2006 XK8 with normally aspirated 4.2 L.
I'll be her mechanic when a more skilled mechanic is not necessary.
I'll need help from other Jag owners and mechanics to keep her impressed :-).
Currently I'm working through a few issues on the car. I'll be posting in the appropriate areas as I go.
Recently, a cooling hose came off (before I was on-the-scene), and apparently the engine overheated and the heads were damaged. She had them replaced.
Yesterday, she had a similar issue, but the engine was not noticeably damaged. She cut the engine as soon as the leak was apparent.
When I went to check it out today, I found a heater hose had disconnected. I think it is the feed hose for the heater, and it has what I believe is a Norma R20 Push and Seal connector on it. I pushed it back on, and it seemed to lock in place, and we refilled the system and drove it home. No problem.
But I'm gonna want to know:
1: was this the same hose that caused trouble before?
2: Did the mechanic replace it?
3: What caused it to come off?
4: Is this a common trouble spot on this Jag's cooling system?
I noticed when the engine had cooled that the upper radiator hose had collapsed. Opening the fill cap allowed air in and the hose recovered. Could this be a sign of a faulty pressure cap on the system?
So, while the car has some other issues, getting the cooling system repaired and reliable is my first order of business.
Should I go post these questions in the appropriate section, or just leave them here for now?
I want to help keep the forum as usable as possible for others in the future.

Welcome.
Those push and click take some getting used to. I always spray them with Silicon Spray, and make sure I HEAR 2 clisck, or I remove and try again. Unless you get 2 clisks it aint ON.
The pressure cap is very high on the suspect list for that hose collapsing issue, common, since cars had pressure caps.

Collapsed hose is often caused by a sticking thermostat on the XK8. However, you should post the question in XK8/XKR forum for advice from members with the same model. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
