Hi from Lincolnshire with my 2003 XJ8 4.2 problems
I just purchased a fantastic 4.2 XJ8 which gets a full MOT after replacing a nearside lower radius arm. 81k miles and with a body better looking than Britney Spears (nearely). I only got 1 smartkey with it and everything was fine until I pressed the "Valet" button. 2 days later, this forum gave me the solution. Great. My problem now is the buttons on the smart key have stopped working. I'm sure it's something I've done and although looking on the forum, I haven't found my answer yet. I,m 68 and feel like lord of the manner when out in it, I'm a happy chappy.
Congratulations on your 'new' Jaguar!

Welcome to the forum Novice22,
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Unless it's physically damaged or got wet, I'd start with the simplest thing and change the Smartkey battery before moving on to more obscure possibilities.
It sounds like you've already found your way to the model forum but if not, follow this link XJ XJ6 / XJ8 / XJR ( X350 & X358 ) - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the X350 forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.
You can also visit the UK & Eire Region forum by following this link UK & Eire - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to find other members in your region.
Enjoy the forums.
