Hi to my new friends ..
Good evening ..
My name is Rob
ive had a few xj40's in my time ...now about to embark in a newer Jaguar the diesel XJL 64 plate ..
i have a question for anyone who can help ...
i test drove a 64 plate portfolio last week ...which went into limp mode after 3 minutes of the test drive
after a week of not hearing anything from the dealer (Renault)...
They got back to me today ..
seems the XJ went into limp mode due to the fuel tank being below 50 miles left in the tank ..(44 miles)
is is this true or am I being lied too ...at a price of £25k and low mileage@23k ...I'm now hesitant about buying it !!
please help ...

Welcome to the forum Rob,
(I've deleted your duplicate post of this question from X-Type forum)
Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.
Extremely unlikely. A more plausible explanation is that the vehicle has been standing at the dealer without being on a battery tender. Modern Jaguars are very sensitive to battery charge and condition.
Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-x351-53/ to the X351 forum for help, advice and information. Note that we are an International forum and the UK 64 plate means nothing to members beyond these shores. Model year is more meaningful.

Hello, Rob,
Graham's explanation sounds quite reasonable to me.
I hope you get all that sorted out soon so you can Drive your car!
Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Aha! I have been sitting here for the past half hour trying to work out what model a 64 Plate was - it was certainly not one that I have ever heard of - finally the penny dropped, and I remembered the British number plate system - so I think a 64 Plate is a 2014 model...is that correct?
YES
We have 2 changes of vehicle registration prefix annually in the UK on 1st March and 1st September.
The 14 plates ran from 1st March to 31st August 2014 and 64 ran from 1st September 2014 to 28th February 2015.
You may be able to see mine is RK14 JUE as it was registered in April 2014.

I have always studied the UK plates and wondered if that was the way it worked - a super system that gives you the model year at the same time.
In South Africa, the new government has tried to reinvent the wheel with registration numbers and it is simply a confusing mess. Add to that that two of the "old" provinces have stuck to the original colonial setup, and you have even more confusion. Under that system - cars from the Cape Province all start their registration numbers with a C ( Cape Town is CA and runs from CA 1 to CA 999 999) natal all start with an N and do the same thing. The other provinces end their numbers with the letter of the Province - L for Limpopo, NW for North West, FS for Free State, MP for Mpumalanga and GP for Gauteng ( the old Transvaal). All except Gauteng have three letters, three numbers and the Province initial, and Gauteng, just to be different, has 2 letters, 2 numbers, 2 letters and GP. Not a nice system!!
