Behold, my introduction to Jaguar ownership.
A somewhat sun-faded X308 with a very non functional engine.
PO ignored the red lights and ran it until it ran no more. Block is cracked and the heads warped. No big deal though, a replacement will slot back in neatly.
Needs a bit of cosmetic work, but about 90% of the electrical things work and the interior has had some money thrown at it in the form of a new head lining and two (genuine!) new front seat covers. All the usual age related problems exist.
Looking forward to getting stuck in. Got the dash gauges out to replace the bulbs, also have some grain of wheat lamps on the way for the switches, gear selector and climate panels.
At least it's fun to sit in and go "brrm brrm" right now. Starting to smell like it should too, feeding the leather every other day.
Hello, Phil,
Congratulations on your First Jaguar, X308!
Nice looking car! Too bad the PO treated it so shabbily. There's no real excuse for ignoring a Red light on the dash. But with the help of members in our X308 section, where someone will direct you shortly if you haven't already found your way there, you'll have her Puuurrrring in short order.

Thanks!
Yeah, the previous-previous owner is on here (@lilfreddie), and took good care of the car; it was daily driven for a number of years, maintained and cared for.
I've already been browsing through the forum, useful guides and information already utilized so I signed up. I've a bit of investigative work to do. There's few inoperative items that I need to address, some easier than others (ignoring the elephant in the room that's the engine). Getting dug in with the easy stuff first- getting it cleaned up and a bit nicer to work around. I treated it to a brand new 900 CCA battery yesterday and that gave me a chance to begin checking out what electrical works and what doesn't.
I can see you've already found your way to the X308 forum so there's no need for a link to it from me. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Southern Midwest Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/u...rn-midwest-67/ to find other members in your region.
A thank you to the mods for keeping this place going. I have questions, and so far have found answers without having to ask.
I'm still exploring the car and getting used to the norms used. There's more wires than I'm used to in a car (but not in a building, this car is a very small network compared to what I look after on a daily basis!) Thankfully the protocols are well documented for the digital parts. The analog bits are fairly easy to follow, which is good.
Looking forward to being able to drive it. Friend of mine had a 91 XJ with an AJ6 in, I recall that being a well riding and driving car but riddled with corrosion and electronic issues. A pity because it ended sat on his driveway on the "some day" list.
We shall see how this one behaves. It's been sat a while so there's going to be gremlins, but it also has been previously cared for. I'm calling it 60/40 right now. I have patience though.
If you haven't done so already you should add your car details to your signature to help others to help you.
