Default Introduction

Hello,
According to the rules, as a new user, they ask for an introduction.
I'm new to Jaguars, I've owned a collect Austin-Healey's [I own 3, a 1954-100, 1966-3000 and a 1960 Bug Eye].
I live in the suburbs northwest of Philadelphia, PA
My 'new' Jaguar is a 2006 XK Coupe with 58,000 miles.

So, as part of my introduction, I'm including my first question:

At 60,000 miles, in addition to the regular service, what should I check?
The car has the 4.2 engine, so I'm of the understanding that I've missed the issue with the timing chain and tensioner but, what else should I examine?
The headliner has already been replaced [Jaguar's using up all the glues left from 1950's].
I have the warning light coming on that says check rear lights and cruise control something or other and I've read this is the brake switch [replace only? Way to repair?].
The front end doesn't ride as nicely as I like. I'm going to check tires, balance and alignment but are there other front end issues I should look into?

Thanks and I hope to learn how to maintain this car myself [when I can]

Ray

Welcome to the forum Ray,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums.

The steel bodied XK8/XKR (1996-2006) was still being marketed in the US in 2006 when the new aluminium bodied XK/XKR (2006-2014) was introduced. The issues you list suggest you have the earlier one. Which model do you have?

Thanks, GGG, yes, it is really a 2005 model [in PA, if a car is sold in 2006, it's titled based on year of sale.

Thanks for the confirmation, Ray.

I've come across this titled year before with US imports. It used to be even more complicated when they allocated a new VIN to imports.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xk8-xkr-x100-17/ to the XK8/XKR forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the US Northeast Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-northeast-35/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Welcome.

I always suggest changing ALL the fluids, and then you are at the point where YOU know what is what. No guess work.

Good luck.

Default Introduction

Hello,
According to the rules, as a new user, they ask for an introduction.
I've owned an x300 1996 VDP (4.0l) since 2019 (Topaz Pearl Metallic). Have had some significant repairs but still want to keep my favorite car on the road and ready.
I live in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada (off Canada's east coast of Nova Scotia/New Brunswick - connected to the mainland with a bridge over a 7 mile strait of water)
My VDP has approx 263,000 kms on its engine. I recently replaced my ECU due to water egress into the firewall (rust issue created water egress) and stupidly did not keep my eproms, etc (nor did my independent shop recommend...but I digress..)

So, as part of my introduction, I'm including my first question re IDS v 118.5:

I have an ECM and TCM module that won't communicate with my dealer's old IDS system (IDS v 117 running on Windows XP laptop). Dealer's IDS successfully communicates with other modules but not ECM or TCM. I've done some research on this issue and believe I have a solution - the ECM was water damaged and was replaced (from a Jaguar wrecker) - I believe the ECM and TCM are now not communicating because the shops (independent and dealer) were running diagnostics that tripped the ECM VIN not agreeing to the vehicle. Regardless, my dealer is a 400 mile round trip/overnight trip from my remote location. I want to setup my own IDS installation and have purchased (enroute) a used original (not clone) VCM1. However, I understand I need the old IDS v 118.5 software for my X300 series. Cany anyone assist me with this?

And to all the folks who post on the X300 forum, thank you from little PEI, Canada for your contributions that help keep this beautiful work of art on the road!
