Default Jaguar XJ6 1992. New Owner/Member

I am so new at this and trying to do anything little myself like I need a user’s manual and the security code so I can at least operate the radio. Then the windshield wiper...lol. I have the VIN # at least.

Welcome to the forums Sheryl,

I noticed your post in the Canada Region forum earlier but see there hasn't yet been any replies. You are unlucky to have a coded radio on a Canadian (or US) specification vehicle as these were for the European market. Only a handful of North American market vehicles got them. Any Jaguar Dealer can lookup the 4-numeric security code from the VIN provided it's the original radio.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj40-xj81-25/ to the XJ40 forum for help, advice and information. XJ40 is the factory code for the 1986-94 XJ6's to distinguish them from all the other XJ6's produced between 1968 and 2009. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. I know XJ40 handbooks are hard to find but one of the members with the same model could have a PDF version.

I've added vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. If you want to change these, go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Default Coded radio....Jaguar XJ6 1992

We asked the Decarie Jaguar and they offered to generate a new one for $400 which seems a bit out of line. We can not fine out the original owner’s name as in between and who we bought the car from was a young guy who had bought the car when he newly arrived from overseas and does not where he was when he bought it. In the meantime he lost his phone and the story goes on and on so no info. Having trouble with opening back doors from outside, window opener button on passenger Side and trunk button in glove compartment doesn’t work but we figured it all had to do with the security code but have been told that it only affects the radio so I guess will start there

Not only out of line but far from the truth. The dealer cannot "generate" a new radio security code.

Found out it is a 1991 and manufactured in England so I think this might make a difference. I talked to a guy at Laval Jaguar who seem much more honest and he got me to check all the labels near the doors and under the hood and checked the computer but apparently the car is too old to check the BIN on their computer system so next week we will try to get the radio out to check for a serial #. Now our garage guy thinks it might be a fuse or something as the radio makes no sound at all...
