Default New adventures

Thanks for the ad to this forum.

I'm three days into becoming the new owner of a 2004 XJR and it's the first time I've owned a Jaguar or any other sort of big capacity car. (I've been a motorcycle enthusiast for over 40 years and still am). But I need a car that I can actually feel something for and have a mate who convinced me I could love this one! Ha ha. Still at the start of finding out all there is to know about this vehicle so I'll probably be on here a lot over the next few months if it proves good in answering questions and advice. I'm a moderator on a few motorcycle forums so know the score and will try not to ask too many newbie questions that have been asked a million times before. Hope that the search function on here is good and then I can use that. Took me quite a while to find the right car at the right price so I did learn quite a bit about XJs in the process.

Hello,
I think you will find that sections on this site are Exceptional at answering newbie questions. After all, Everyone here had to start out at the beginning sometime, even our Moderator, Graham, and our Gurus in each section. Most of us haven't forgotten those days and empathize with current newbies.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

OK.

My first dumb-*** question.

Coming from a motorcycling background the first thing one usually does with any bike is replace the exhaust system with a lighter (stainless or titanium) better designed version that releases horsepower and torque and sheds a lot of unwanted weight. Match that up with the intake with free-flowing filters or a modified airbox and re-map the ECU to suit. I've never had a car in my whole life that I would have thought of doing this to but I see that there are many different companies (from small bespoke independents to big brands like Quicksilver) who sell aftermarket exhausts for the XJ series. There are also a host of Supercharger intake pipes which allege to release power and add a bit more aural character to the 'whine'.

I'm not an old age executive who bought this car to drive around in silence and absolute serenity. Neither am I a boy racer who doesn't care about being too loud and annoying the whole neighbourhood. TBO I thought this engine would be a bit louder and throatier - it does seem to be stifled somewhat in standard form.

What is the general openion of Supercharged V8 owners on this subject. Does it split opinions?

What are the accepted brand/makes of exhaust that people recommend the highest for performance/value for money?

Thanks in advance.

Many members read the Intro's and several reply to them. However, few return once they have seen them. Consequently the place to post technical questions is the MODEL forum. You will get advice and opinions on this topic in X350 forum.
