Default New custodian 1981 XJ6 happy to be aboard

Picked up 1981 from a friend who bought it at auction. Very new to the car and not very acquainted with it. It’s been off the road since 2001 so I need help. It drives goes forward and reserve and stops. I need suggestions on what to do before I make a mess of things. What should I tackle first? Water pump, chain tensioner, gas tank flush? Any suggestions even funny (or not so funny) are appreciated 🤙

Welcome to the Forums.

It MOVES, and STOPS, what more could you possibly want??

I suggest flushing/changiing ALL the fluids, NO exceptions.

Many more suggestions in the XJ6/12 Series 1,2,3 Tech Section.

Good luck.

Welcome to the forums Tom,

+1 to Grant's advice. I too like to change ALL fluids on a new (to me) Jaguar. It catches anything that may have been missed in previous maintenance and gives a baseline for future servicing. I also take all the wheels off to check brakes and suspension.

Follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...s-i-ii-iii-16/ to the XJ6 & XJ12 Series I, II & III forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues. You can also use the US Western Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/us-western-38/ to find other members in your region.

Please read the guidance for new members ( https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/n...ned-up-241802/ ) which answers many of the most frequent questions about getting started.

Enjoy the forums.

Hello,
Congratulations on your new Jaguar Xj6!
You will soon become acquainted with your car, and every minute you will be more closely Bonded with it. This is not a bad thing, because then it will start to "talk" to you and tell you what it needs and wants.

I'll look for you over in our Xj6 Series section.where Graham has directed you.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
