new to forum
North Texas. Glad to find this group.
Looking to get XJ6 this weekend or very near future. Finding differing references providing which engines are available in 1990 XJ6. Some show 4.0L other shows 4.2L but never both. I suppose when I get the car I can use the VIN and Engine S/N to pin down. So will probably have post in near future. Not new to working on cars, but do need know how to reference engine when ordering parts or using service manuals.

The USA only EVER got the 4ltr in line 6cyl in the XJ40. The rest of us also got the 3.2ltr sweeter engine.
The 4.2 6cyl is for the earlier Series cars, ending in about 1987ish, BUT, the body shape carried on with the 5.3ltr V12 ONLY, until about 1992.

The 1990 XJ6 (a.k.a. XJ40 which is the factory model reference) will have a 4.0 litre six cylinder engine.
