A couple of years ago I had to give up my 89 Lotus Esprit for health issues . So before selling it to a friend ,I took it to my mechanic for a final once over . While I was picking the car up , my mechanic asked me if I might do him a favor and detail a car he had just purchased . I agreed , pending inspection of the car that I was supposed to detail . When he took me to the holding area , I was very pleasantly surprised to see a beautiful Dark Red 99 Vandenplas Plas staring back at me . The paint was in need of a serious buff but to my excitement the interior was flawless ! It looked like a new car inside . I really have no idea how the original owner kept it so perfect! So after agreeing to help him out . I asked him what he was doing with a Jaguar limo . It wasn’t his style at all . He said he had just purchased it From a customer who received the car from his grandfathers’s estate . He told me he just needed a quick cleanup for resale . . So the following day, I picked the car up and off I went . The Jaguar had a little over 116,000 miles on it so I really wasn’t expecting much of a ride , but once I got behind the wheel I was shocked at just how incredible this limo handled. It was like driving a cloud . It was the smoothest, quietest automobile that I have ever driven and over the years I’ve owned some very high dollar vehicles . By the time I got it home, I had already decided that I wanted this car . I had owned a 1964 XKE , just out of high school, so I was well aware of the expense of owning a Jag but the car was such a dream to drive that I really didn’t care , plus I got it for a very reasonable price . Now I am once again the proud owner of a Jaguar . I have since done major preventative maintenance. Replacing the water pump , timing chains, tensioners, shocks and shock mounts and I am currently replacing the throttle body . I now own a car that I have about $10,000 into , that is probably only worth about $4,000, yet I can honestly say that I don’t care . Every single time I take it for a drive I have a smile on my face . I love the ride ! And perhaps the craziest thing is that I get almost the same thumbs up

Right after the buff job

I really like the color
response from other motorists as I did while driving the Lotus and without all of the pain !

Nothing puts a smile on my face like a drive in my Jag.
There's something about seeing a Jag on the road that The Public simply Love.

Congratulations on your new Jaguar.

I am sure the car is worth much more to you than $4k. That's all that matters, not what book "value" says. That is the perfect color for the Vanden Plas. It matches the elegance to a T.

I was surprised by this too as I've had a string of sports cars like Toyota Supras, Mustangs and Corvettes before a spinal injury put me in a sedan as a daily driver. But I literally in seven years never filled up the XJ8 gas tank that somebody at an adjacent pump didn't comment "nice car" or ask me what the year model is or something. I kind of think it has something to do with maybe people think that a person driving an older Jaguar sedan is probably more approachable than someone driving a Corvette.
