Default New Guy

Newbie here.

I'm a long term Porsche guy, since 356's. I've been an occasional Jaguar driver and long an admirer of Mr. Lyons' children.

Frankly, I've joined to follow this forum and educate myself before I maybe start shopping for an open XK8 at some indeterminate point in the future. (something I wish I had done with some other automotive purchases)

I'm aging, I hope gracefully, and my need for the last ounce of performance has submitted to my desire for elegance and comfort. I wish I still had my Mom's DS21 Pallas Cabriolet, but such an auto is beyond my means and would be inadequate for even my lowered performance needs.

My Jaguar experiences include:

The hood flipping up on my Dad's XK-150 at 110MPH plus. It bent the top bows down between us as it folded over the windshield frame and slowed us to <70 in an instant. We left the remains of the hood in a filling station and completed our (school-visit) trip with those cam covers pointing the way, gleaming in the sun.

Watching my Dad, a surgeon in his element, adjusting the valves on that car, a clean table beside it in the driveway, covered with shims.

Finding my roomie's XK-E difficult to drive b/c "my feets too big" for the pedals. A real shame, that.

Helping a friend work on his XJ.

Will

welcome to the forum - you'll find plenty of info and support here.

I see you've already hit the XK8/XKR section - be sure to check out the stickies at the top of the page - plenty of how to's and a few links on things to look for in a gently aged XK8/R.

Recommend checking out the midewest regional section for local events/news, etc.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/m...n-mo-oh-wi-39/

Lastly - please take a moment to add a signature to your profile by clicking the user cp link in the upper left. Once you have a Jg in hand, include the model and year for better response to any questions you may have

Most of all - enjoy!!!

Welcome to the forum Will,

Good to have you here with us at Jaguar Forums.

When assessing any potential Jaguar purchase, a complete service history is critical. Well maintained examples are a joy; neglected ones can be a nightmare!

I can see you've already found the XK8/XKR tech section so there's no need for a link.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top there is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham

Thanks to all, I've a good feeling about this forum, which in my cursory (so far) surfing, seems to share a helpful attitude and depth of knowledge similar to a couple of the Porsche 928 fora.

And thank you, Jim. I was hoping a mod might do that. I remember a visit in Glasgow, on a driving tour of Scotland with my family years ago, in our new Citroen estate. Later, some old battlefield. What does a kid know about Culloden? Parents do their best - some of it sticks, a little.

Scots wha hae!

Welcome to the forum Fogey1, I grew up in Ohio and my father had a 1952 XK120. The hood never came open but my brother fell out on a corner when the door came unlatched. He was fine just a few weeds stuck in his teeth.
There are plenty of nice examples of XK8s out there and at reasonable prices. I hope your search goes well and you find one just right for you. This forum contains a wealth of knowledge freely given away by some of the most generous of members.
