Default New Guy

Greetings from Ottawa, Ontario

Long time JagLovers patron. I've spent the last 25 years in law enforcement, I was a mechanic (before they were called "technicians") in my previous life.
Ive owned several Jags and recently sold my long-loved 83 XJ12. I am the happy owner of a 1997 XJR6 that has been in my possession for 4 years.

Found this site while researching timing chain/nikasil issues on a 1998 XJR I am considering. I do all my own repairs, (and there have been many!) so hopefully I have positive comments to offer to these forums.

Dave

Welcome to the forum Super, I think that you will discover that the general consensus seems to be that if a 12 year old Nikasil car is still running then there shouldn't be an issue.

Tensioners on the other hand seem to be a must check/change item.

For detailed information check into the XJR sections.

Super, a shout out to you in our Nation's Capital! How come you are looking to go up a year from the XJR6 to the XJR? I've read lots of good things about the XJR6.

Thanks all for the warm welcome! The 98 was offered up by a friend who inherited it. The 6 is a great car, I briefly drove the V8, there is a substantial difference in the power delivery, and, I have a bare spot in the garage.
