Default New guy in Cali

Hey people. Just bought a 2003 X-type 2.5 base with 5-spd stick shift. 133,000 miles. Figured it was time to see what a 'proper' car drove like.

As a sort of Top Gear-style introduction, a brief history of my former rides:
1989 Buick Reatta (with touchscreen)
1986 Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3 (5-spd manual)
1994 Buick Century 3.1 (because it had a front bench seat and chicks dig it)

2000 Ducati Monster 900 S i.e. (dry clutches are amazing)
1988 BMW K100 Special Edition (with heated grips)
1983 Kawasaki KZ550 Sabre (with original gold rims)
2001 Buell Blast (it was cheap)
2003 Buell XB9R Firebolt (the chicks dig it.. more than a bench seat)

Still got the Buell Firebolt

Welcome to the forum,

The Jag may not like the surf too much. :-)

Welcome to the forum.

My first bike experience was way back, with a KZ1000 as a teenager. Bloke took me out for a spin, me hanging off the back. Never again.

I bought the bike, to stay on the front.

Congratulations on your manual X Type, quite a rarity around the place.

I have a set of Yakima racks that fit my 190E. I'll need to buy new mount things --i forget what they're called-- but they'll work on my Jag's roof too, according to website. Also looking to get a hitch setup for my kayaks, small sailboat, and hanging snowboards off the back (yes it snows in California)

Thanks

That's what I did to my now best friend. His first time on a motorcycle I had my Ducati. We set off on the freeway reaching 130mpg in seconds. The first thing he did when we got back was check the classifieds. A bike in Cali is a no-brainer; it's riding weather year-round. Can't beat a ride that does 0-60 in 4 seconds and averages (me) 55mpg.

And the manual was an impossible find. My Reatta died last Christmas, been riding just the motorcycle for a year looking for a good condition used manual European car.
