New guy from Canada
Hello all
I'd been shopping for an X300 or X308 generation XJR for a few months, somewhat undecided on the simpler 6-cylinder car or the burly V8 with more complexity and possible potential issues. Looked at several V8 car in the area, but ended up making a deal yesterday on an aquamarine 95 about 3 hours from home.
It's never been winter driven, which is important here in southern Ontario because of the amount of road salt usage that causes huge corrosion issues. The car certainly isn't perfect, but the (mostly) original paint is decent, and the areas that typically rust on these cars are very solid. The unusual colour caught my eye, I'd never seen one in person that shade previously.
The car has about 190,000 km on it, previous owner is a younger guy who purchased the car about 4 years ago from an old family friend who had been a Jaguar dealer technician. So it has been fairly well cared for, and a bonus is the decent condition 18" BBS Milan wheels from an X308 R1 pkg car, including the spare. Unfortunately one on the car is a bit curb rashed, and the spare is also but quite heavily. I've found the jagwheeltrims site so I'll be ordering some replacements soon. It will need the rear section of the exhaust replaced as well as the windshield to pass our provincial safety check, but that shouldn't be too much of an issue. I work in the industry as a parts guy at a Ford / Lincoln dealer, so even with "other make" parts I can usually getting something of a break on the price.
Most of my previous cars have been Ford / Lincoln / Mercury, a few Chryslers, GMs, and early VWs, but this is my first go at a Brit car. I've always been a fan of the styling of the X300 & X308 cars, and love the usable torque created by the belt-driven blowers. A previous ride was a 1995 Thunderbird Super Coupe, which had a 3.8L V6 topped by an Eaton M90, and mine was a manual trans car which made it very fun. My most recent Thunderbird that I sold earlier this spring was a 1988 Turbo Coupe, which was a pretty car but a bit of a disappointment for performance with the 2.3 4 cyl. turbo in a relatively heavy car, at least for around town driving ... I definitely missed the low-end torque of an SC car.
I'd used the search feature here quite a bit while the vehicle search was in progress, it was very helpful. Wanted to actually get my hands on a car before making the step to register of course. Looking forward to learning more about these cars as I get into it a bit more. A few phone pics:
