Default New Here. 1994 xj6 vdp

Hi.
I'm new to the forum. I'm about at my witts end on my 1994 xj6 vdp.It wont start when it's cold unless I use starting fluid. Then when its warm it starts beautifully with just a touch of the key. Engine has good compression. The car has 168000 miles on but the odometer doesn't work so hard telling what the actual mileage is. The body is in great shape accept for fading clear coat on the roof and hood. The interior is good also accept for some where on the drivers seat. I only paid 500$ for the car so if I can't figure it out I may just sell it again. Thanks in advance.

Hello, Del,
Seems like your car was perhaps neglected for some while. However, by chipping away at these little annoyances you'll soon have a Classic Xj40 you can drive the wheels off.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Yes the car sat for quite awhile before I got it. If I can get this starting issue figured out I can drive it and work out any other bugs that may come up.

Running OK when warmed up but difficult to start - I'd begin by looking at a possible temperature sensor fault:

However, it's been twenty years since I had an XJ40 and members currently running this model will have better knowledge.
