Default New Member intro

I’m a proud new owner of my Grandfather-in-law’s 1989 XJ6 VP. I have read a couple forums and realized I need to refer to the model as an XJ40. He purchased the jag in 1990 and used it as a daily driver until 4 years ago. The car only left garage a couple times a year over the past 4 years when we were in town visiting. I believe there are roughly 136k miles on the car. He had the car serviced prior to me purchasing it.

I have driven the car 200 miles, I have had several electrical issues that stranded me around town but nothing to major that I couldn’t figure out. Most recently the car leaked out a decent amount of transmission oil, but I haven’t had an opportunity to climb underneath. I’m assuming the years from sitting followed by more frequent driving has allowed a dry rotted seal to leak. I have ordered a service/repair manual, and I’ll start searching the forums prior to spinning any wrenches.

Hello,
Congratulations on taking over ownership of your new Jaguar!
You're correct, Jags need the regular exercise of driving to keep them in good condition.
A proper service manual is Always a good idea!

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
