Default New Member Introduction

Hello Everyone,

I am a new member on the forum and there is a wealth of information I have already begun using. In the past couple of weeks, I fixed the following on my "new to me" 1996 Jaguar VDP.

Drivers door lock/latch, would only lock doors with the key, not the remote.
I installed the electronics from a spare I got at the junk yard. Fixed!

Just drove it at night and found out opening the front doors did not not turn on the interior lights. I spent the day taking apart the door panel on the drivers side, pulled the little rubber off the micro switch and sprayed it with contact cleaner. Put a little dob of grease like Doug (D D) did, put it all back together and nothing. About ten minutes later, they started to come on when I opened the door.

I did the same on the passenger side with the same crazy results, put it back together and nothing. About ten minutes later, the passenger door started turning on the interior lights. Success!

I also had a little up and down movement in my steering column, and yes, the answer was here! I tightened up the torque screws under the column and Voila! Like new.

Looks like my speakers are old and have a seperation of the paper, so new speakers coming. I love taking apart door panels. I am very good at it now.

My next project is the rear window defogger, the side mirrors heat up, but not the rear screen? I am sure the answer is here.

I have been a member of Motorcars, LTD Jaguar forum and Jag Lovers forum too. So I guess it shows I have had my share of Jags. It is my favorite everyday car.

I am really finding this to be a great forum and look forward to daily reading.

Kevin

Congratulations, Kevin!
Isn't it satisfying to fix one of these cats? She'll show her appreciation for all your attention.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forum Kevin,

Good to have you with us at Jaguar forums and to hear you've found useful information to help with your Vanden Plas.

As you've already found your way to the X300 tech forum, there's no need for a link to it from me.
The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for info on regular issues.

Please remember to add vehicle details to your Signature to help others to give relevant advice. Go to the User CP button on the left of the top menu bar, then Settings & Options under Your Control Panel. Select Edit Signature and enter the details.

You can also visit the USA North East Region forum by following this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/usa-north-east-me-nh-vt-ma-ri-ct-nj-ny-pa-35/
to find other members in your region.

Enjoy the forums.

Graham
