Hi All,
I’ve been a lurker on here for awhile but finally wanted to introduce myself. About a year ago I picked up a project ‘00 XJ8 with 99K on her that had been off the road for about 2 years. It was an experience with renting a U-haul trailer and using a come along to get her loaded up and transported an hour back home. After getting it home and cleaned up I chased the problem down to a fuel supply issue. I thought it was a bad fuel pump, but after dropping the rear suspension enough to get to the fuel lines I realized someone had been in there before and that the fuel lines were very damaged from not being properly disconnected the last time the tank was out. I ended up pulling the tank to flush it, replaced the fuel pump, repaired the damaged lines, put it all together and after a bit of priming she fired right up.
Since that time the family has given her the nickname Polly (Pinnacle of Luxury) and we’ve enjoyed putting 2K or so miles on her. I’ve done a bunch of maintenance items on her as well as a few performance mods. So far I’ve done front/rear pads/rotors/soft lines, front/rear XJR-spec Bilstein shocks, front/rear upper shock mounts, intake, cam covers and oil pump gaskets, steering rack, tie rod ends, sway bar bushings/end links, XK8 18” wheels/tires and probably a bunch of other stuff I’m forgetting.
Next on my list is to do the timing chains, tensioners and guides. I’ve read everything I can find about that job and am fairly confident I can swing it as I’ve done similar timing jobs on other engines. I could use some pointers in what timing kit to buy, as it seems the kits from Chris that everyone was recommending are no longer available. I’ll post separately regarding that unless anyone has any thoughts in this thread.
