Default New member, old gear-head - 1978 XJS...

Dropping in to say hello.
I just picked up a 1978 XJS w/ 97,000 on the body/chassis that has a small block Chevy (350) conversion that was installed in 1988; it was a John's Cars conversion and done in California by a GM ASE mechanic (car came w/ a slew of receipts). Apparently less than 12,000 miles on the SBC based upon receipts.
Transmission is a TH350 w/ a mild-moderate shift kit, Rochester Q-Jet carb, all gauges work, solid body/paint/interior, etc.
Obviously on a 41 yr old car there are some items to work on; questions to follow on a topic-by-topic basis...

Right or wrong this will not a purist Jaguar (especially given the Chevy conversion has already been done.
Plan on having some relatively reserved fun with it doing some mods - I've always loved Jags even back in my High School days when I had a '71 Camaro. I have a mild-moderately built small-block Chevy that I have had mothballed; plan on yanking the existing motor at some point down the road and dropping my motor in.

Right now fighter a dead wiper motor that's preventing me from completing registration / tags so I can 'legally' get out on the streets; wiper motor has been sent out to Classic Wiper in South Carolina - hopefully I'll get it back in a week or two.

There are a lot o things I want to do to this thing and looking forward to working on this w/ my 18 yr old son and 15 yr old daughter.
Thanks in advance for putting up with me; be prepared for some questions and hopefully along the way I can return the favor w/ the input...

Best,
Steve

Hello, Steve,
Congratulations on your new XJS!
Many of us drive converted Jags. I personally wouldn't have one otherwise, even though some consider that blasphemous.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.
