Default looking for NEW brake booster , 1978 XJS

who would have for sale , a NEW vacuum booster unit for 1978 XJS?

found some used !

i prefer a new one , not used ,rebuilt, refurbushed , overhauled etc.

is there such a thing and how would i know for sure its history!

my car is showing its age , booster was new in 1993,BUT time marches on!

some Jag parts sellers show the early XJ6- and XJS are the same? like 1989 was a change area!

I recently got one from RockAuto. It was A-1 CARDONE 535950 It's working great, appeared new.

If you want an upgrade... I've got a composit pedal box, booster and master from 1995 XJS I've retrofitted to a 6 speed.

Hi icsamerica

The Brake Pump on my 1990 XJS pre-facelift 5.3L has burnt out and a New one is NLA

How easy would it be to retrofit a composite pedal box booster and master from a 1995 XJS (was it from a 4.0L or from a V12)

Do you have any Pics of the unit and how you fitted it, so I can see what is needed and what it looks like

Here is a Link to the Problem with the Brake Pump on my V12 https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...122634/page86/

Hi Ron

I think that TRW 'may' do a New Brake Booster for an XJS that might be worth checking out

I was upgraded from XK8 2003.Pedal box, assembly with aluminium master cylinder. Directly fit. But I was have a problem with the triangle reservoir.
The price will today is comparable to the new booster.

The difference between the right and left steering is only a hole for vacuum. For LHD is JLM10735 and CAC1227. RHD is JLM10734 and CAC1226

Composit pedal assembly is a bolt in. Fluid line might be in a slightly difftent location. Switch for stop lamps would have to be improvised.

I've driven both early, mid and late XJS. The early and late vacuum brakes feel great. I have no-idea what Jag was thinking with that Teves system with the accumulator. The pedal feel, or lack of pedal feel, is not suitable for a proper GT.

Hi icsamerica

Funny you should say that, I was thinking the same thing

The vacuum brakes on my old Merc feel about 10 times better than those on my XJS which unlike the Merc seems to lack 'Pedal Feel'

Was your composite pedal box booster from a Six Cylinder Car of a V12 ?

I've found that weird pedal feel on many 80s vintage cars with ABS....probably because Teves supplied so many manufacturers. But, same applied to the early Bosch systems.

I'm a big fan of ABS but those early systems left a lot to be desired; lots of consumer complaints. The early 90s GM ABS systems were terrible, IMO. Much too over-active/agressive

Things have gotten much better

Cheers
