Hello folks, about time to get part of a club.
Retired engineer, bought my first Jaguar 35.years ago, 1976 xjs, cheapest in the newspaper, and I learned a lot about Lucas, rust, electric windows, wiper motors and such.
Sold car 2 years later at a loss and bought 1977 xjs that I still have. Moved from the Netherlands to the USA and took the xjs and a 1973 Citroen ds 5spd and a lada niva diesel with me. Still own those.
In the USA I got into Mercedes diesels and later in diy electric cars.
Always thought that xj is one of the prettiest cars and when I saw a 1975 lwb xj with a Mercedes diesel om617 turbo I thought ,that is made for me.
All was good until by chance I ran into a 1975 xjc v12. Not running , straight some floor board rust
That is when I realized that it was time to get on the forum
That Citroen ds20 I bought around 1985 at lacque St Croix while I was working on a campground during the summer vacation.. started with 2cv then gs break that I traded for the the ds. Drove it for years. Good adventures. Sitting on blocks now ,waiting for me to put the exhaust under it and change the front suspension *****.
The lada niva with a Peugeot 1.9 diesel na . Was the second niva. The first lasted a year and many off-road challenges. The niva diesel drove us to the north Cape thought Norway Sweden and Finland back.. it never made it back to its native Russia. At this moment the IP is gummed up, I have a Bosch pump to put in but as many of us ,to many projects.
Daf, is that a reference to the DAF cars van Doorne from the Netherlands?
