Been away from jags since last on here many years ago with my xj6 cars. A lot has gone on since. Last Jag , a 1993 xj6 4.0 saved my life.... Left me with 5 metal lates in my face but police said if it wasn't for the fact it was a solid Jag the outcome would of been worse. But that story is for another day. Running Subaru Impreza for last ten years. Still have one now. But bought a 2004 xj8 in 2021. Loved it. Went down to hull to pick it up then drove home to Aberdeen. Fell back in love with the jags again. So tail end last year dealt the V8 for a 1996 xj6 4 ltr and and 1994 6 ltr v12 xj40. ( Told it's a ex Jag demonstrator car and it it registered in Coventry) on 80000 miles. I've never seen a 6 ltr v12 in the xj40 shape. Anyhow 4 ltr one needed too much welding so been concentrating on the v12 these last few days. . Been off the road a good few years so will post a thread on the project as I do all my own work

Hello, Taf,
I had no idea the Xj-40 came with V12! Yours is the very first one I've even heard of. 80000 miles is just now well broken in and loosened up.
Someone will be along shortly to direct you to the correct section where you can find help and advice rejuvenating your Classic Jag.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Thank you folks. sorry been a while off here as work and personal has me busy. .Thank you for the tips also. Update 4 ltr xj6 is away... Just needed too much time on it.
the xj40... I mean xj81 v12 is now just about ready for the test. Had a issue with bad blue smoke out of the right bank.... Which has cleared now... So suspect sticking oil rings due to sitting so long and me stopping and starting it . Did a compression test.... 200 -. 215 across all 12. Running beautifully. Only issue I have now is small bit of water leaking into front footwells. Causing front screen to gum up over night. I taped bottom of windscreen but still leaking . It's not coolant. Still not convinced it's not the windscreen rim due to where water seem to be dropping from up behind passenger and drivers dash. First proper test drive now smoke has stopped and love the torque and smoothness. Usual rear head liner sagging a wee bit. Ideally to finish right it will need a sunroof panel and two front wings as bottom bits at the rear are real scabby,to really finish it off .
anyhoo I will post up on a main xj page on future progress.
