Wasn't expecting this but we were going to buy a new chevy cruze turbo yesterday and found a private party '02 xtype in the morning before we went to the dealership. Figured we had nothing to lose and went to check it out, other than needing new tires it looked to be pretty much perfect (and the driver's seat will not raise up or down but haven't had a chance to see what's wrong with it), for $5k.

Have heard horror stories on Jag upkeep, but hell this thing was so cheap it's irrelevant and it's just a secondary vehicle anyways. That chevy we were looking at was going to be well over $20k, so the day ended on a good sign and $18k+ cheaper Neither one of us have ever owned one, nor did we know they had cheaper models like the xtype... we always thought everything with this hood ornament was extremely expensive.

Only thing I don't like is (like most v6 cars) there's not a ton of room to work on stuff in the engine bay.

Welcome to the forum. Being a second-hand car, you may find other issues, but you won't find a better source of info, or friendly assistance, than on this forum. Congratulations on the find, and making the jump to a fine automobile! Now all you have to do is post some pictures of your new ride.

Steve

Thanks, but no pics yet. Getting it detailed since it was a bit dirty. As for the other issues, it's expected... Some people expect to get brand new car reliability and mint condition for a used car price, but I'm not like that. Heck, this thing was only a couple thousand $ so even if we had to put a brand new engine and transmission in it, we would still be well below what that other car would've cost. And besides, who wouldn't want a Jaguar over a Chevy sedan lol.

Welcome to the forum. The X-Types are very often seen here in the UK, being the best selling Jaguar here for years, but they are no longer made unfortunately. The V6 is a well known Ford engine and is very reliable. Sometimes people have issues with the transfer box (that splits the drive front/rear), but not a lot else.
