As a mailman I found this in a customers garage under a tarp in 2012. It was his wife’s car who had passed from cancer so he wanted to sell it. It was last driven in 02. Both tanks were rotted out so I purchased tanks out of another jag in Florida, had my mechanic install them and rebuild the carbs and I’m up and running. She’s a beauty, but I’m thinking of selling, I rarely drive her.

Hello,
And here's yet another Xj6c coming out of the woodwork!! I wonder how many more are hiding under tarps and in barns.
This one is indeed a Real Beauty! Especially as it's RED,( my second favorite right after BLACK) Your wife had Really good taste!

As you don't really drive this car, I can understand how you might want to let someone else have it who would appreciate it properly. Before you put it up for sale though, find out what it will sell for, even advertising nation wide if need be.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

I love these, but seems like every time I see one that I could possibly have a shot at purchasing, I'm deflated when I read further into the description or scroll through the photos to find that its been lumped. I enjoy my 69 Corvette, but its the driving experience of that inline six that's half the value of a classic Jaguar just like that V8 is to the Corvette.

As to selling it, please just don't go the BaT route. You never drive it enough, but that's how it will almost for sure go back into long-term storage as part of a large private collection. I always click on the other bidders profiles to see who I might be up against and its always wealthy people (or deeply in-debt I don't know which) who've bought a dozen or more cars on the platform and spent millions of dollars (I've only ever won one online car auction). But my main complaint is the seven days because I'm not wealthy enough to bid on a car sight-unseen. I can't cancel or reschedule a bunch of meetings and beg off a bunch of deadlines to travel. I might on rare occasion be willing to outbid some of the high-stakes gamblers on the platform for a car that's high on my wish list, but I can't do it if doing so risks that the money stops coming in so logistically, its just not ever going to happen in an online auction unless the car is local.

If you don't want to deal with it yourself (tire kickers, joy riders, no-shows, etc), I rather buy from a classic car consignment dealer. I've both bought and sold cars that way and I feel like the premium is worth it. Even when the online auction cars are local to me, I've found its often extremely difficult and sometimes impossible to schedule an inspection within the seven days (I actually think many sellers do that on purpose to avoid showing the car - my favorite common line is "BaT wouldn't tell me when the auction was going to go live and I already had tickets to fly out of town this week."). A consignment dealer has regular office hours and its never a problem to inspect a car (one time I arrived in town it was pouring rain and practically flooding outside so I at least got a little test drive inside the warehouse). And usually they are asking way too much initially so I know that the car is probably going to still be there even if I can't make arrangements to get away for several weeks. But you're a mail carrier right? You understand the perspective of someone who works for a living and how difficult it is to purchase your dream car. Please choose a method to sell it that gives mail carriers and other working folks a chance at it.

Thanks, There are so few on the market. I don't know the value of an all original in this condition.

Thank you for the info. I retired 5 years ago. I'm hoping there is someone that who can help me figure out a fair price range. I took it to a local auto mall that specializes in vintage/ classic cars. Said "We can find a comp" but they couldn't. Haha. Don't need the money, so I don't have to sell, But I think I drove it 3-4 times this year. She deserves better

One place to start is the Hagerty price guide. https://www.hagerty.com/valuation-tools Just be sure that you understand the condition categories. Their web site has an oversimplified one paragraph description of each category, but some years ago, they published an in-depth article describing how they get their data and explaining in much more detail each condition category. You might be able to find it if you google search.

There is also https://www.collectorcarmarket.com/

You can also look for comparable sales in the past on https://bringatrailer.com/

Another resource is to find your local Jaguar Owners Club. They'll usually have a lunch or dinner once a month even through the winter months. You could just show up and they'll be glad to help (but be careful because they'll just as likely talk you into keeping it and becoming a member).

Thank you very much. I've looked before, but everything I see is either all fixed up or basket case . Those sound like some great resources , I will definitely look them up.
