Smile Old Man with a "new" Jaguar

Hello All,
For the first time in my life I own a Jaguar. My wife dubbed him "Mick" before he even arrived. He's not exactly old, but not young either, an MY10 XF 3.0L Diesel S with 178K gone and hopefully a lot more to come. I'm hopeful those of you who know will guide me in the right direction to keep Mick running as he should without making my aged pension disappear altogether before there's food and fuel!!! I don't need to convert any of you readers here; my old friend who is also a mechanic asked me why I should be so stupid as to buy a Jaguar. He told me that it was impossible to work on and everything in it would cost a fortune. My heart ruled my head and so here I am. Please somebody tell me that I haven't done the wrong thing, best regards to ALL from this newbie🙂

Welcome aboard Bruce……I guess we’re all a little bit that way, but having said that I wouldn’t drive anything else….My XE hasn’t missed a beat…Good Luck from north of the border.

Welcome to the forums Bruce,

Keep him as an old friend - get a new mechanic.

Welcome to the Forums.

I agree with Graham, keep him on a leash, the shorter the better, away from the Jag.

None of mine have needed special attention, and "Freddy Fiddler" never gets close.

Good luck.

Hello, Bruce,
So your mechanic sez Jags are "impossible to work on," does he? And "everything costs a fortune."
Well, there are Hundreds of us on this site who work on our Jags to the exclusion of allowing anyone else to even Touch them except for safety/smog checks. And that includes ME!

So as Grant mentions above, Keep him as a "friend" but Ditch him as your mechanic.

Yes, we're all spent some hours and $$$ on our cars, but it's good clean Entertainment that keeps us out of trouble on weekends -- Mostly.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Default Many Thanks for that warm welcome

To all of you who have pointed me in the right direction I say thank you very much. I'm about to get the cam belts changed along with the water pump and since quality of work and durability of the result is paramount, I'm glad to be surrounded by those who KNOW things! 🙂
