One of a kind 1949 Jaguar Mark V Station Wagon
I was hoping that someone could give me information on how to value a one of a kind Jaguar. I know it sounds crazy, but I do believe we just aquired a 1949 mark v station wagon. I would love to hear back from anyone that may have knowledge of this car ever being made and again how to get something like this appraised if it really is a one of a kind.
Welcome to the forum Maeflower,
Your photo cuts off the most important part of the vehicle - the rear!
According to JHT records, Jaguar built 336 (both saloon and drop head) Mark V in 1949. A rare vehicle and an equally rare market in which provenance and condition dictate the value. Your station wagon could well be unique.
It is very unlikely to have been produced by Jaguar. From the chassis number, JHT (Jaguar Heritage Trust) would be able to provide the factory build history although they do charge for this service.
The chassis and engine numbers will indicate if it was a standard vehicle which was subsequently converted. Assuming it is a 1949 3½ Litre:
Chassis Number
B or D = saloon
C = drophead coupe
Engine Number
M or S = RHD
SL = LHD
There was a small number of specialist coachbuilders in the UK (e.g. Crayford Conversions and Harold Radford Conversions) specialising in converting standard cars into convertibles or Estate Cars (Station Wagons).
