Default Recessed Gas Tank area..water concerns

Hello Everyone..

I have a basic question that i would like to ask as i am concerned about water getting into my gas tank. I drive a 97 XJ6L and the area where you put gas in the car is exposed to a lot of water while driving and sitting parked in the rain.

The area around the hole where you place the gas is recessed about 1.5" and when it rains heavily it fills up with water...Shouldn't there be a pin hole drain or something in that recessed area keeping water from building up around where the gas is placed in the car. When it rains i have to be very aware and actually placed a microfiber towel in the area so i can wring it out when it absorbs water.

Am i missing something completely or is this something i need to be aware of.

Thanks for the Help...

Welcome to the forum,

I'd imagine there would be a drain, but you should ask in the XJ section for a better response.

Welcome to the forum, yes there is a drain, gets blocked with gunge. If you do poke it out be careful not to displace the drain pipe otherwise all the water will fill your trunk.
