Default So far so good(ish) - 2006 2.2D X-Type Estate

Hi everyone,

Already found some useful info here, but suspect I'll need more over the next few months! Recently bought a 2006 2.2D X-Type Estate - 80k Miles with completely unknown service history but a solid feeling engine for a price that was hard to turn down (time will tell). The car was from a deceased estate and had been sitting for a good few months. The alternator belt snapped en route home from picking up the car (oh no!), and I suspect a bad aircon compressor.

I'm trying to baseline the servicing... the following has been done:
- Oil & filter change
- New air filter
- New cabin filter
- New power steering belt (old one total perished and cracked)
- New alternator belt (currently with the AC fuse pulled - to see if anything else is suspect)

A few other items to be done:
- Brake disks & pads
- Windscreen wipers
- Window waste (waist?) seals (usual rusty issues) - Are the genuine parts worth it vs e-bay?

What other servicing would be recommended?
- Gearbox Oil?
- Coolant Flush?
- Brake fluid?
- Anything else?

Chassis is pretty rusty in places - any suggestions for high risk spots and what to watch out for?

All input much appreciated!

Cheers
Iain

Welcome to the forums Iain,

On any 'unknown history' vehicle, I always do a full fluid change to give a baseline for future servicing and pick up on anything that may have been missed by the PO. Definitely coolant and brake fluid from your list. It's waist seals. These are listed as available from Jaguar at £61 for the front and £52 for the rear.

It sounds like you've already found the relevant forum but if not, follow this link https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x-type-x400-14/ to the X-Type forum for help, advice and information. The 'HOW TO' thread at the top is a good place to start for information on regular issues.
