Welcome to the Forums.

Not common to my knowledge under normal driving situations.

Other members in the XF (X250) Tech Section will have more advice.

Good luck.

Hello, Mary,
I'm sorry to read about your broken engine. 116,000 miles should be only just well broken in and loosened up for a modern engine.
At any rate, you're looking at a new engine for sure.

Welcome to the forums from ElinorB.

Welcome to the forums Mary,

Putting a conrod through the block is unusual with any vehicle. I look forward to seeing the the photos.

Welcome. Wow... there does not appear to be much bearing material left on that connecting rod. Starved for oil and then spun perhaps?

Not sure what happened with that looks like it but why who knows maybe Oil Filter clogged but really should have been ok at 20k , think that maybe at last service it was not changed as per bill states. A new engine or used low mileage will cost in the region of 4k fitted.

Although I've had a few engines fail over the years, it's mostly been valve gear and I've only had one main bearing go. The noise was extraordinary even though I cut the engine immediately. A con rod through the side must make quite a bang!

A replacement used engine is a big ££ pain but will get you back on the road in the fastest time rather than going with a short motor..

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I would tend to agree with you but there was no loud bang engine just lost power it was even starting back up but noisy like it was Injector related rather than anything else the engine was lumpy but still maintained a tick over though it be a loader diesel type knock the car was taken to a repair shop where it sat for six weeks during the lockdown. Then I received a message from the garage with the photo saying it had a hole in the engine but I can assure you there was no loud bang or noise during the episode no warning just 70 mph to loss of power in a matter of seconds the Car was moved up a ramp at the garage however and would have had to be started to do so so it is all a bit of a puzzle. thanks for reading the post.
