Default XK8 on HIlton Head Island

Greetings from the land of golf nuts, retirees and one almost-geezer nearly retired and probably old enough to know that his bones will always rebel at sliding in and out of a 1997 XK8. I do it anyhow, and insist on using this car as my daily driver. That is, when it is not in the shop, like it is today. Mystery overheating, and they are wondering if it is pump impeller or thermostat or who knows what.

I've driven Jags for the last 8 or ten years, XJ8s, two X-types, and now for the last year a 1997 XK8 just about to turn over 120K. It is tight and fast and responsive and the engine compartment, body work, and interior all looks like it just rolled off the showroom floor.

I drove English sports cars for the first 25 years of my license, then took time off for surgeries and American automatic transmissions, and then started buying well-kept older Jags as karmic rewards and punishments for both my good deeds and my sins.

Today I'm in the punishment cycle. The Jag is overheating. My 1992 Mercedes 600SEL is living in the nearby MB dealership waiting for an electrical relay (that car has only 18,000 miles and looks beautiful, but it is a recent purchase/marriage and she is still extracting her dowery gifts before I get to take her home.)

I very much enjoy the forum posts, and already have a few experts I look for when researching my woes.

3rdcat (My user name does not refer to Jags but rather to how many animals with 9 lives I've used up already)

Thanks so much. I love it here and already feel like I belong. I look at the members with problematic Jag after Jag after Jag in their signatures and think some of you might hear that I'm on my fifth marriage and actually understand how that might easily happen, and not think me crazy.
Time now to take my debit card and head for the repair shop.
