Default Oporto Historic Grand Prix 2011

I thought I could post some of my recent shots of Oporto Historic Grand Prix, of early July 2011.

For those who’re not familiar with the track, it is the comeback of a really significant track in the 50’s and 60’s (this was the circuit where Sir Jack Brabham won the spectacular 1960 World Championship - with two races of the season still remaining - at the wheel of the revolutionary rear-engined T53 Cooper Climax) which is now being used as the stage of a “revival” kind of event, every two years.

CC is welcome!!

First shot was with my new kenko 1.4x extender. The others were all shot with the usual 7D + 70-200mm f/4 L combo.

Oporto Mayor and the Pit Babes.

The man behind the Oporto classic event. A true classic car enthusiast, preparing to have some shots taken alonside the grid girls, after taking part in a VIP race.

One of the stories that are usually told about his taste for classic cars: he once entered the “city hall” garage, found an old Mercedes bought some decades before, by another Mayor of the city. Meanwhile It had been abandoned, giving place to newer cars.

He ordered the mechanics to restore the old Merc and he now uses it for some of his official outings, instead of travelling in any of the more recent limos.

Nuno: When the pics are this good, post all you want!!!

By the way, the "pit babes" sort of give a whole new incentive to taking a pit stop. I'm just wondering if stops are more frequent when the "babes" are present. They are certainly much nicer to look at than the backside of the car in front of you.

Cheers,

Thanks, Larry!!

Yes, I also think that when "babes" are present at the pit stops, the cars tend to brake a lot more, in need of assistance...
