Default 2000 s-type 3.0 won't start and random times

Hi all.

I mentioned this issue in a previous post but some one said it was worth starting a separate thread, so here goes.

So the car randomly will just not start and it's intermittent. This is what I experience.

Insert key(I only have one)
Turn to start position (dash lights and PATS light is solid)
Car doesn't crank

Keep trying (sometimes for 10 mins) before car finally starts.

The starter was replaced by one mechanic. But it happened even after.
Then took it to a European special Mechanic for a diagnosis but they couldn't find anything. Said the car started up to 40 times without problem (when the day before it wouldn't start so I could leave work..)

After their diagnosis they gave me a print out with some codes the car had.

The guy said he cleared them... I heard that I should check again to see which one came back? can you guys also recommend a good not expensive odb2?

This is my first car, and I have no prior DIY auto mechanical experience so please bear with me.

I don't have a "steering column locked"
and some one else mentioned it may be CKP related..?

I know it is a long shot but i would start with the battery . A flat battery or one that has almost no charge left would make all kinds of glitches. So check it before you do anything else.

So I picked up a Bafx odb2 and downloaded the Dash app, just to see what it's all about.
In one of the gauges it shows that my Jag is running at 12.8 volts, and the reading says anything below 12.5v means a bad battery or alternator and that the car ideally should be close to 15v. Did this free android app just find what the mechanics couldn't?

Does this sound like a bad an alternator problem?
The battery was changed 2 years ago.. so i don't think it's the battery.

Was that engine running?

If so, grab a meter (DVOM etc) and check a few places (battery, fuse boxes, everywhere you can) and see what volts are engine off after standing overnight and engine running.

Alright, so the multimeter came in yesterday.

I checked the battery overnight/car off it read 12v
and when I turned the car on it read 13.76

Does these scream at anything?

I know you said also to check fuse boxes but wasn't sure what exactly to do there.
is there a specific fuse I should check? what am I looking for?

agreed - you need to see at minimum 12.5V or higher. 12.6V and up is optimal after 8 - 12 hours of non-use. Anything below 12.5v and your asking for trouble. 12v on these cars is like having a 100 pound brick w/ 2 cables attached in the rear passenger boot of your vehicle

Finally got the battery changed yesterday.
Picked up this from Pep Boys http://www.pepboys.com/product/details/9073755/00312.

Will see what happens.

Hadn't experienced this issue since changing the battery.
I ended up selling the car on Christmas 3 weeks later, but I'm convinced it was the battery causing this.
After all the searching up I learned these jags act up when the battery isn't well.

Thanks to everyone for helping.
Until next time, maybe I'll own a jag again, one of these days...
