Default '00 radio has to be disconnected, what are my options (Double Din, new radio, SOL?)

Car is a 2000 Jaguar S-type V8.

Here's a little background for ya first, probably not necessary to actually read this part, but I have to go on a mini-rant. After about four months of searching and a lot of frustration, I finally found the perfect S-type for me, and due to some issues in purchasing insurance, I had to push back the date I would travel (four hours) to purchase it one day later. As a result, I wasn't able to reschedule a pre-purchase inspection, so unfortunately, I said screw it and bought it on good faith after a test drive went well. Unfortunately again, the guy was a scumbag, and on top of the battery drain problem I learned of the next morning, there was also $1400 additional worth of repairs, but that's irrelevant to this thread so I'll stop my rant here.

So here's the deal, the shop I took it to identified two things that were draining on the battery, the ECM (which I have no clue what that is), and the radio. They fixed or did whatever you do to an ECM, and also disconnected the radio so it wouldn't drain on the battery.

So what I'm wondering now is what are my options as far as listening to music goes, and also not draining my battery anymore? Will a double din work when my radio is disconnected? If I order an identical new radio console, will that work? Anything I can do here, or am I **** out of luck?

Lastly, if the double din thing would work, does anyone have any suggestions as to a cheap, but still quality double din for me?

Thanks in advance for any help at all!

Anyone have an idea if buying this would fix my problem and whether I'd actually be able to install it, seeing how it looks like it doesn't come with any wires?

link of ebay auction is below, but it doesn't offer a whole lot of details anyways so I figured it'd be easier to just post the picture

I wouldn't put in an old cassette unit if it were me.

Here is an old thread that may give you some help https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...-mp3-etc-6669/

Do you still have your old radio? The only thing I could think of for your old radio to drain you battery would be if someone wired it hot(on all the time)

If this is the case a simple rewire will fix your problem,....Your mech should have not just unhook your radio.

It prob. is a easy fix.

Hi guys please I need your help. I have a 2000 jaguar s-type with similar problem of draining battery and won't start in the morning. I took it to the mechanic, the guy did some troubleshooting, and he told me that the sound system was the culprit and he went ahead and unplug the fuse for the sound system. The car does start now after parking overnight but I have no sound system, does anyone knows how to fix this problem so I can use my car radio. Your help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Read the battery drain threads and realise how lucky you are. Also those threads contain troubleshooting info but you won't be able to read the PDFs till you follow the sign-up instructions you got! (A mod will be along....)

You will see from reading that it may not be easy to find the true problem without you (or someone you pay) spending a lot of time & effort.

By sound system do you mean the radio's or whatever fuse was pulled? Or like a fuse for the speakers? I know my main drain on the battery was the radio console, which went away when I purchased a new radio console.

On the face of it the new head unit sounds like the answer.

Luvsammy4life, maybe you'ld like to post up an intro in the new members area while your thinking about the radio?

The mechanic guy told me it's the radio console, because after pulling the fuse, there was no power to the radio whatsoever, another thing I noticed before the fuse was disconnected is that, I have no subwoofer sound from the rear speaker.
